I went sat with the bees this afternoon, I could hear the satisfying hum of the hive . They were flying back and forth, dancing in the wind, and navigating their way around the blades of grass that had grown up around the hive. As I listened deeper, I could feel the heart of the hive thrumming like an engine. I looked through the window at the top section of the hive, and saw bees doing the waggle dance, which is the way they communicate flight paths to the best source of pollen and nectar. This dance also tells the other bees the direction and distance of the patch of the flowers that yield this food, where water and new homes can be found. The the waggle dance has a figure of eight pattern. I could see them doing their dance, moving so fast it looked like a blur.
